VP of Finance and CFO

Brent Soper is the vice president of finance and chief financial officer for San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH), a 255-bed hospital in Bakersfield, Calif.

Other than a five-year stint in the mid-1990s during which he was the co-owner and manager for Morgan Inn in Milton, Ore., Soper has worked for Adventist Health since graduating from college. Before joining SJCH in January 2007, he spent five years working in the audit department of Adventist Health, where he became the corporate audit supervisor in 2000. In 2002, he accepted the position of controller at Paradise Valley Hospital in San Diego, where he eventually became the CFO and worked until joining the SJCH team in Bakersfield.

With a degree in accounting from Walla Walla University and certified public accountant credentials, Soper undeniably sees things from a financial perspective. Yet, he is passionate about using the hospital’s resources to ultimately benefit the patients.

“One of the best things about this job is the opportunity to positively affect clinical outcomes through properly allocating our resources,” Soper said. “It’s very rewarding to be a catalyst in purchasing equipment that ultimately benefits those we serve.”

Outside of the office, Soper enjoys traveling around the world – especially to Italy, his favorite country to visit. Among his co-workers, Soper is well-known for his baking skills, often bringing delicacies to work and even catering baked goods for parties from time to time.
