President and CEO
Robert J. Beehler is president and chief executive officer of San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH), a 255-bed hospital in Bakersfield, Calif. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility, medical staff relations, and strategic vision for the organization.
As president and CEO, he oversees one of the largest non-government employers in Kern County with nearly 2,000 employees. In 2007, he oversaw the completion SJCH’s new 5-story, 130,000-square-foot patient tower. The new tower is home to some of the most advanced medical services in the San Joaquin Valley, including an award-winning Maternity Care Center, high-definition surgical suites, the city’s largest emergency department, and Kern County’s only full-treatment burn center. Since 2008, Beehler has also helped SJCH become the only hospital between Los Angeles and San Francisco to have both a Nationally Accredited Chest Pain Center and a Nationally Certified Stroke Center under one roof.
Bob most recently came from Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., where he served as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Creighton, he was Chief Operating Officer of Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto, Calif. Bob has also held various other administrative and leadership roles, including CFO for eight years at Redding Medical Center in Northern California and Modesto City Hospital in Central California.
Bob holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and a bachelor’s of science degree from Loma Linda University. He is active in the community and serves as a public speaker on health care trends and issues.
He and his wife, Myrna, have one son, Matthew, a recent hire at Hanford Community Medical Center, an Adventist Health facility in St. Helena, Calif.
