VP of Support Services
Sam Itani is the vice president of support services for San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH), a 255-bed hospital in Bakersfield, Calif.
In his position, Itani is responsible for a wide range of departments that are vital to the hospital’s overall and day-to-day success. Among others, these areas include security, plant operations, IT and nutritional services.
Originally from Lebanon, Itani came to the United States to attend college at Colorado Technical University, where he graduated with degrees in biomedical engineering and electronic engineering technology. He then attended Pittsburg State University in Kansas, receiving his master’s of technology in 1989.
After finishing his studies, Itani moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he taught electronics at Mount Royale College and worked in the Biomedical Engineering Division of Foothills Medical Center. In 1998, he moved to Bakersfield where he began working as the lead tech in the SJCH Biomedical Engineering Department. After a stint as the regional manager of clinical engineering for Adventist Health, Itani entered his current role at SJCH in 2006 and is excited about the current state of the hospital.
“I’ve been working with this hospital for a long time and, right now, it is the best it has ever been in terms of our physical plant, quality of service, continuity of staff and future outlook. With the great team we have in place, we’re primed to continue building for the future,” Itani said.
Itani and his wife, Ghina, have two kids, Maya and Tarek. Whether traveling to Tarek’s games or watching the Bakersfield Condors, most of the Itanis’ free time revolves around the sport of hockey, which they acquired a love for during their time in Canada.
