Why: In 2008, San Joaquin Community Hospital made the intentional decision to raise the level of stroke care in Kern County by becoming the first hospital between Los Angeles and San Francisco to become a Nationally Certified Stroke Center. In the nearly three years since, SJCH has continually increased the quality of care being given to stroke patients – as evidenced by the multiple awards the stroke center has received during this time. As further evidence of SJCH’s high-quality care, the stroke center has been awarded with the ASA’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award – the highest honor for stroke care given out by the ASA. During this press conference, the individuals and organizations that have helped achieve this honor will be recognized by hospital leaders and representatives from the ASA.
