SJCH offers Kern County residents the same technology in its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit as found at Loma Linda University, NYU and UCLA. In fact, our MRI is the same system used in several large teaching hospitals. This state-of-the-art MRI allows very high quality, detailed images to detect studies of orthopedic and neurology patients. It allows physicians to examine very small blood vessels in the brain and spot aneurysms or identify plaque build-up in the carotid arteries that might lead to a future stroke. Even more beneficial, this MRI is shorter, wider and more comfortable which allows patients who experience claustrophobia or high anxiety a more relaxed and patient-friendly experience. |

Nonsurgical interventional radiology procedures offer less risk, less pain and less recovery time compared to open surgery. The landscape of medicine is constantly changing, and for the past 30 years, interventional radiologists have been responsible for much of the medical innovation and development of the minimally invasive procedures that are commonplace today. Interventional radiologists pioneered modern medicine with the invention of angioplasty and the catheter-delivered stent, which were first used to treat peripheral arterial disease. |
