Making a difference, one act of kindness at a time... The volunteers at SJCH are a vital part of the hospital’s operations. Our volunteers here create lasting, positive impacts on our staff, our patients and their families. If you have the desire to help others, we encourage you to explore the possibility of working with our team of volunteers. While SJCH will certainly benefit from the blessing of volunteers’ service, we often learn that the blessings go both ways. So many of our volunteers find that “making a difference” for others makes a difference for them, too... Just as the skills and talents of our volunteers at SJCH vary, so do the opportunities for service, including: The Gift Gallery: The boutique-style gift shop at SJCH is always looking for volunteers who can help customers find that special item. Various shifts are available at the Gift Gallery and training is provided. General assistance: Volunteers also assist and direct visitors, help on the nursing floors or in the Emergency Department as well as the Maternity Care Center. "No One Dies Alone" program: This volunteer duty allows a sacred opportunity for volunteers to give a gift from the heart as a companion to those alone in their dying. The desire is to provide a reassuring presence to dying patients, to give them what we would all want at the end of our lifetime: a dignified death. "Angels in the ER" program: By focusing on the Emergency Department, volunteers can help ease stressful situations that can arise from an ER visit, often the site of a patient’s first introduction to the hospital. The volunteers for this program will offer non-medical assistance to patients and their families, allowing ER staff to focus on patient care.
